President’s Welcome Season 2023/24
It is my absolute honour & privilege to be elected as President of Young Munster RFC for this season 2023/24.This great Club has been in my DNA since I first joined it as an Underage Player c.50yrs ago before graduating to the 1st Team & then becoming a Supporter, Committee Member & now the greatest accolade, to be chosen as Club President.
Young Munster was founded in 1895 (128years ago) & its ability to grow & thrive has been driven by its never wavering core philosophies of Community Spirit, Open Door Policy, Pride in the Jersey & 100% Commitment both on & off the pitch. Our sense of togetherness is built on a long standing vibrant Underage Division catering for c.200boys & girls whose spirit is infectious & has helped build a unique culture in this great Club.
These qualities have resulted in many successes over the years across all age grades & our 1st Team are the current holders of the Munster Senior Challenge Cup having won it last year for the 3rd time in a row which was an outstanding achievement. We also play our Rugby in Division 1A of the AIL, a highly competitive league which we last won in 1993 but one we remain very focussed on as we commence this season.
I want to wish all our coaches (Underage & Adult) every success & in particular I want to extend best wishes to Head Coach Ger Slattery, 1st Team Captain Alan Kennedy & acknowledge the huge effort by all players/coaches/management in all our teams to be” the best that they can be” every occasion they wear the “Black & Amber”.
Our off the pitch activities are effectively underpinning everything we do as a Club, therefore a massive Thank You to all our Volunteers, Coaches, Officers, Members, Supporters & last but not least our Sponsors who as a collective contribute hugely to the ongoing success of the Club. It would be remiss of me not to mention our lead sponsor Pat Burke (PBC Ltd) for their long standing & continuing support & also take the opportunity to welcome Mike O’Riordan (STL) on board this year.
Finally “Cead Mile Failte” to all our visiting Teams, Officials, Supporters & Referees…I know you will all enjoy the unique Match Day experience of Tom Clifford Park .
